The new voices of Australian Melodrama: The Jezabels


It took many years since the depart of the Triffids for a worthy heir to emerge, but the Jezabels, with their recently released debut album, claim the crown. A fierce lyrical sonic attack, not a weak moment from start to finish. When a friend posted Prisoner, I agreed that it was an instant classic, combining the aggressiveness of Muse with the voice of The Walkabouts. Went looking for the record and the three EPs they released in the past 2 years, and I was not let down.

Fronted by Hayley Mary's diverse powerful voice, Heather Shannon on the piano, Nik Kaloper on drums and Samuel Lockwood on guitar, they are equally good at building bright pop moments, at discussing the Wide Open Roads of their birthplace, or at embarassing every hip indie effort around the world
And this is Long Highway, nothing so uplifting, so traveling since the Strees Had No Name...
